Lessons from a Mayonnaise Jar

This 'will be my 10th speech I'm doing for my GFS Food For Thought Toastmasters Club. I had heard this in my Bible Study in Houston a while back. One of the biggest lessons I learned from this is to put God first in my life & everything else will fit...but IF I try to "fit" God in after I have already put in my "every-day" stuff... well ... it just doesn't work! These are a few good lessons so I thought I'd share it here:)

Lessons from the Mayonnaise Jar

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 Hours in a day is not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was. The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous 'yes.' The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

'Now,' said the professor, as the laughter subsided, 'I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things -- God, family, children, health, friends, and favorite passions -- Things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter, like your job, house, and car. The sand is everything else -- The small stuff. 'If you put the sand into the jar first,' he continued, 'there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

So... Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first -- the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.' One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. 'I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.'

A carrot, an egg, and a cup of coffee...

I'd like to share an email I received today...

A carrot, an egg, and a cup of coffee...You will never look at a cup of coffee the same way again.

A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose.

Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil; without saying a word.

In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl.

Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl. Turning to her daughter, she asked, "Tell me what you see."

"Carrots, eggs, and coffee," she replied.

Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the daughter to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg.

Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee. The daughter smiled, as she tasted its rich aroma the daughter then asked, "What does it mean, mother?"

Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity: boiling water. Each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its insides became hardened. The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.
"Which are you?" she asked her daughter. "When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?

Think of this: Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength?

Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart?

Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you. When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest, do you elevate yourself to another level? How do you handle adversity? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?

May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human and enough hope to make you happy.

The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past; you can't go forward in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.

When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling.

Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying.

May we all be COFFEE!!!!!! !!

Wow... this is a big deal... Eiro & SuperOxide Dismutase (SOD)

I was reading our Eiro Pharmacist's blog & found this very interesting! Eiro is a big deal - you should take advantage!!!

Eiro’s recently completed study showed that the Eiro Superantioxidant wellness beverage significantly raised the level of SOD in the body. Based on the number of questions I have been getting, most people did not realize the significance of this nor did they understand the study. Let me see if I can show you what a big deal this is without getting too scientific.

Another Hat I Wear

How many would like the benefit of better health? Did you know that sunlight, smoke, air pollution & alcohol all cause oxidative stress that can lead to weaker immune function, premature aging & even damage DNA? Antioxidants & polyphenols combat these effects by neutralizing free radicals & preventing oxidative stress. Eiro Research, (along with real estate this is another company I am involved with), offers products to improve your over all health & wellness. One of the products is our EIRO Juice, a Superantioxidant Liquid Nutriceutical.

In the past few years, functional beverages and especially antioxidants products have become increasingly popular for their host of benefits. More and more, capsules and pills are being replaced by liquid nutritional supplements. EIRO entered the market with a fresh take on liquid nutrition. A new body of scientific research shows that consuming whole foods is the best way to get complete nutrition. Using a combination of five superfruits, (a superfruit is a fruit known for its high concentration of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, polyphenols, or bioflavanoids) EIRO produced a unique and proprietary product that delivers exceptional benefits through a whole, pure, and natural formula.

The five whole fruits purees featured in EIRO are:
Caja- a first-to-market superfruit which is rich in vitamins B, C, and potassium as well as iron and calcium
Acerola – this fruit is naturally high in potassium, magnesium, and other antioxidants
Acai – popular in recent years, it contains essential fatty acids, amino acids, and antioxidants, including resveratrol
Camu Camu – this fruit has the highest concentration of vitamin C in the world
Pomegranate – world renowned for its antioxidant and nutritional value

The benefits many describe include increased energy, which is the #1 reason people turn to supplements, strengthened immunity, and improved mental clarity among many others. One of the key benefits is that EIRO neutralizes oxidative stress, which has been shown to affect a number of things, from how you experience the aging process to joint comfort and mobility. Taking EIRO for 30 days consistently will bring benefits that you will be able to feel and see!

The uniqueness of EIRO’s superantioxidant formula comes from the theory of including only what nature intended. There are no freeze-dried or extracted ingredients in the product. There are no added sweeteners or preservatives. In fact, EIRO achieves one of the highest ORAC scores in the market by simply providing whole fruit purees in a liquid form.

EIRO does not claim to treat, diagnose, or cure any disease. Our products are not evaluated by the FDA as they are nutritional supplements. BUT Wow - all this information is just the juice; EIRO Research has come out with an Energy Drink & Weight Loss System too!! Because we are so confident you will love them, we offer a 30 day 100% money-back guarantee. In our world we all have been exposed to some kind of sunlight or air pollution. Health - Personality - Society - Live

Health:

Drink plenty of water.
Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a beggar.
Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is manufactured in plants
Live with the 3 E's -- Energy, Enthusiasm and Empathy
Make time to pray.
Play more games
Read more books than you did in 2009
Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day
Sleep for 7 hours.
Take a 10-30 minutes walk daily. And while you walk, smile.

Personality:

Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
Don't have negative thoughts or things you cannot control. Instead invest your energy in the positive present moment.
Don't over do. Keep your limits.
Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
Don't waste your precious energy on gossip.
Dream more while you are awake
Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need
Forget issues of the past. Don't remind your partner with His/her mistakes of the past. That will ruin your present happiness.
Life is too short to waste time hating anyone. Don't hate others.
Make peace with your past so it won't spoil the present.
No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algebra class but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime.
Smile and laugh more.
You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree...

Society:

Call your family often.
Each day give something good to others..
Forgive everyone for everything..
Spend time w/ people over the age of 70 & under the age of 6.
What other people think of you is none of your business.
Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will.

Life:

Do the right thing!
Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.
GOD heals everything.
However good or bad a situation is, it will change..
No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
The best is yet to come..
When you awake in the morning, thank GOD for it.
Your Inner most is always happy. So, be happy.
